During the Venetian occupation of Greece in early 1700, a small fortress was built at the entrance of Vivari bay.

The bay area back then was known as "Porto di Trepano" and apperently used for maintenance on Venetian ships.

In 1701 Francesco Grimani reported about the unique position of Porto Trepano to the Venetian Senate. The bay was said to ideal for drydock repairs of the Venetian fleet.

It's not a walk in the park, approximate 40% there is no trail at all, wading through hard & sharp overgrowth.
